Microdosing Is The Practice Of Taking Tiny, "Sub-Hallucinogenic" Doses Of A Psychedelic Substance To Enhance Mood, Creativity, Cognition, And Emotional Integration. Studies Have Shown This Practice To Be Promising In A Wide Variety Of Applications, From The Treatment Of Mental Health Symptoms To The Management Of Chronic Pain. Yet, For Something That Has Revealed Itself To Be So Promising, You May Be Surprised To Learn That There Is No Standard Definition For "Microdosing" In The Lexicon At All!

A "microdose" of a psychedelic substance is anywhere between 1/10th and 1/20th of a standard (recreational) dose. This means that in the case of dried psilocybin mushrooms, a microdose could range from anywhere between 50 and 300mg. This is an incredibly high range to work with and may be confusing to beginners. That is why we've compiled this section here to help get you started with ease.

Psychedelic medicine is unlike any other class of drug in that dosing is but one of many variables that affect the quality of your experience. According to research, the benefits you'll accrue from microdosing (and psychedelic therapy on the whole) are determined primarily by the quality of your psychedelic experience. A microdosing protocol is simply a pre-designed schedule for your practice: a regimen that outlines the frequency of dosing days vs. the frequency of "days off." Protocols are a way of helping users everywhere add structure to an otherwise-unstructured practice.

As the popularity of microdosing grew, however, so too have the misconceptions surrounding it. Many have come to view the notion of a microdosing protocol as perhaps more regimented and authoritarian than they were intended to be. Following a protocol is not "do or die" because low-dose psychedelics are inherently quite forgiving. This is not comparable to a Type 1 diabetic needing to take insulin every day. A microdosing protocol can be a great way to get started, but intuitive microdosing should be our ultimate aim.
